Our commitment to the environment & climate

Ströer is committed to environmental and climate protection. Ströer is constantly developing its product portfolio in outdoor and digital advertising in the direction of sustainability.

The focus of improving the environmental friendliness of the out-of-home advertising portfolio is on the digitalisation of out-of-home media. Our aim is also to support cities in resilient, environmentally friendly urban development.

Environmental impacts of the OOH portfolio

As part of the ongoing development of the outdoor advertising portfolio, the increasing digitalisation of out-of-home installations is being further driven forward.

Digital media formats represent a key starting point for improving efficiency. Ströer aims to further develop the operation of its advertising media whilst taking into account economic and energy-related efficiency requirements.

Measures implemented include, in particular, the use of energy-efficient LED technologies, which enable improved luminous output whilst reducing energy consumption, as well as the use of control systems to adjust brightness in line with ambient light conditions. In addition, technical optimisations such as adjusted colour and contrast settings, as well as the temporary switching off of advertising media, are being implemented to reduce energy consumption.

Energy Efficiency and Energy Management

To systematically improve energy performance, Ströer relies on energy management in accordance with ISO 50001 in its major energy-intensive subsidiaries. This standard enables the continuous recording, analysis and evaluation of significant energy consumption and forms the basis for specific efficiency measures, the implementation of which is regularly monitored.

Key priorities include the modernisation of advertising media, the evaluation of more energy-efficient alternatives for equipment and services, the optimisation of building utilisation and building services, and the expansion of a semi-automated energy monitoring system.

Furthermore, Ströer aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its operational processes and reports on the relevant developments as part of its sustainability reporting in accordance with the CSRD.

Vertical gardens

In several cities across Germany and Belgium, blowUp media, a subsidiary of the Ströer Group, has created large-scale vertical gardens featuring a variety of plant species. Digital screens are integrated into these spaces and are available to advertisers and partners.
