Press release

Marc Schmitz will take over responsibility for the Ströer Content Group

Marc Schmitz has been appointed CEO of the Ströer Content Group as of 1 June 2016, where he will assume overall responsibility for the content and publishing business of the Ströer Group. His core task, not least since the acquisition of t-online.de, is to bring the individual assets closer together and connect them. Following the successful launch of the new content-based business models centered around Germany’s online portal with the largest reach, t-online.de, the Content Group is now also focusing on diversifying its advertising-driven revenue streams. In his new role, Marc Schmitz will report directly to Christian Schmalzl, board of management member of Ströer SE.

Marc Schmitz, 42, is currently International Managing Director on the board of Europe’s largest digital publisher for women, aufeminin S.A., where he is responsible for international business and expanding cross-border activities. He is also Managing Director of the German subsidiary of aufeminin, gofeminin.de GmbH. Before that Marc worked for OnVista, where he helped set up the health portal Onmeda, for which he was subsequently responsible.

"In the past year, Ströer has not only enhanced its own marketing position further but also, and not least thanks to the acquisition of t-online.de, set up its new and successful business unit Content Group. Our aim is to connect our various assets more closely, develop the individual brands further and also continue to diversify our revenue streams. This will make our media more relevant and at the same time boost the appeal of the advertising environments,” says Christian Schmalzl, COO of Ströer SE. “Marc has wide-ranging expertise in content, an excellent track record in setting up and running new operations, and strong technological know-how. He has proven in the past that he knows how to enhance and scale content-based business models and thereby create highly profitable platforms. That makes him the ideal candidate for driving the Ströer Content Group forward."

The Ströer Content Group creates and distributes premium content across all digital channels: web, mobile, social media, Youtube, Twitch and public video. This includes news, tests, price and product comparisons, videos, podcasts and live reporting. In this area, Ströer is anticipating sustained growth – not least based on the systematic focus of the Ströer Content Group on performance and quality. The portfolio built up to date includes leading special interest websites such as GIGA, Spieletipps and kino.de, the high-reach multi-channel network TubeOne and the leading content and technology specialist Content Fleet. With its portals and networks, Ströer currently reaches more than 34 million unique users, generates more than 4.5 billion page impressions and well over 655 million video views per month. Following the acquisition of t-online.de, Ströer is one of the top three digital publishers in Germany just one year after commencing content operations.
