London has Piccadilly Lights. Hamburg is getting The Lighthouse: Ströer and blowUP media launch Germany’s first immersive DOOH screen

With The Lighthouse, a new digital landmark in the outdoor sector is taking shape in Hamburg: Germany’s largest LED screen installation, covering over 530 square metres, featuring 3D displays and multi-screen storytelling at Spielbudenplatz.

Following the highly successful launch of The Whale at Hamburg Central Station, Ströer, together with its subsidiary blowUP media – the specialist in large-format outdoor advertising – is once again setting new standards in the digital out-of-home (DOOH) sector – this time in the outdoor space: With over 530 square metres of digital LED space, Germany’s largest LED screen installation is being created in Hamburg – and, at the same time, the country’s first immersive DOOH screen.

London has Piccadilly Lights. Hamburg is getting The Lighthouse.

With The Lighthouse, a new digital landmark is taking shape in Hamburg, combining international appeal with local urban energy. It is not just about size, visibility and 3D effects. The Lighthouse Hamburg combines a spectacular 3D round-corner display with several large-format, high-resolution screens and over 300 square metres of digital ambient architecture to create a novel, immersive LED screen architecture.

“With The Lighthouse Hamburg, we are launching a new category in the German DOOH market,” says Udo Müller, CEO of Ströer. “Following on from The Whale as a spectacular 3D moment, we are now taking the next step: The Lighthouse is not just another outstanding 3D LED screen, but also a completely new kind of immersive LED screen architecture. Covering over 530 square metres, this is Germany’s largest LED screen installation – built for brands that want to make an impact in the urban landscape, be filmed, shared and remembered.”

Katrin Robertson, CEO of blowUP media Group, adds: “The Lighthouse Hamburg is more than just a digital media space. It is a stage for brands that want to be seen and experienced. The name says it all: a flagship project with real appeal that showcases brands in public spaces in a groundbreaking way and sets new standards as a visual light spectacle.”

Key features at a glance:

  • Germany’s largest LED screen installation with over 530 square metres of digital LED surface area

  • Spectacular 3D round corners for anamorphic effects

  • Three large-format, high-resolution screens for uniform image display

  • Over 300 square metres of digital ambient architecture for immersive displays

  • Seamless content flows across multiple levels

  • Full-motion outdoor DOOH for dynamic storytelling

Location: Spielbudenplatz

Hardly any other place in Germany combines culture, entertainment, music, nightlife and urban energy as powerfully as Hamburg’s Spielbudenplatz. Millions of visitors, creative professionals, cultural figures and night owls make it one of the liveliest places in the country. Here, brands not only achieve maximum visibility but also create eye-catching content that is filmed, shared and disseminated beyond social media – an effect that has already proved strategically valuable for The Whale.

Following a planning and development phase lasting several years, implementation of the project will begin in July 2026. The existing façade will be renovated, enlarged and redesigned both technologically and aesthetically. The Lighthouse Hamburg is expected to be available for booking from mid-September 2026.

An exclusive first-mover package will be offered at launch: a brand will have the opportunity to secure the first major campaign on The Lighthouse Hamburg with 100 per cent share of voice for one week. This means the first campaign will also serve as a showcase for the new ‘Immersive DOOH’ category.
