Ströer installs Germany's largest digital out-of-home screen at Hamburg Central Station

Digital, oversized and impossible to miss – Ströer is setting new standards in the field of digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising and has announced the launch of Germany's largest digital 3D screen. A digital highlight is being created on the north side of the concourse at Hamburg Central Station: with an impressive area of 342 square metres, the public video giant screen ‘The Whale’ at Hamburg Central Station will become the centre for spectacular brand presentations and digital innovations in Germany from 2026.

The new screen measures 38 metres in width and 9 metres in height, enabling advertisers to create a breathtaking brand experience while guaranteeing maximum visibility and reach. More than half a million people visit Hamburg Central Station every day. This makes it the busiest station in Germany and with an area of 342 square metres, the screen is significantly larger than any other screen available in Germany.

342 square metres of digital fascination

The screen is the highlight of Ströer's Public Video Giant network in the indoor and outdoor areas. The screens attract attention thanks to their size and quality. Positioned in busy locations such as transport hubs, station concourses and lively squares, the oversized media ensure strong brand messages and an intense impact.

The Public Video Giant will show moving image content with a spot length of 10 seconds and up to 20 repetitions per hour. Thanks to flexible booking models, daily motif changes and editorially embedded content such as news and weather, ‘The Whale’ will be a modern, attention-grabbing communication platform for campaigns with urban appeal.

"This is innovation at the intersection of monument preservation and digitalisation, transport hub and 3D experience – with the Public Video Giant in the concourse of Hamburg Central Station, we are realising a project that is unique in Germany in terms of size, location and technological sophistication. This new large format represents our vision of designing digital outdoor advertising as an experience platform and making brands unmissable,‘ says Alexander Stotz, CEO of Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH.

’Hamburg Central Station is a place of movement and encounter – ideal for brand communication that hits the heart of life. With the new Giant Screen, we are creating a medium that impresses in terms of reach, emotionality and technical excellence. Customers benefit from an iconic presence in an iconic location. Our screen delivers massive reach on the one hand and, on the other, a unique advertising impact thanks to its size. Brands can use it to showcase themselves in a unique way," says Michael Noth, Co-CEO of Ströer Media Solutions.

With the Public Video Giant in the heart of Hamburg, Ströer, as the innovation leader in the DOOH segment, is continuing to drive forward the digital transformation of public spaces. While more and more ‘iconic screens’ are appearing in cities such as Berlin and Munich, the new project marks the biggest step yet in the indoor sector. In September, a 100-square-metre LED screen was integrated into the portfolio at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, creating relevance and reach that sets standards throughout Germany.
