Press release
On September 11th, 2025, at 11 a.m., a nationwide warning day will be held throughout Germany. All warning devices such as sirens, smartphones, warning apps, and digital city information systems will be tested. Since 2018, Ströer's digital city information systems have been integrated into the federal government's satellite-based Modular Warning System (MoWaS) and support authorities, municipalities, and emergency services in providing citizens with fast and targeted information. In more than 300 cities in Germany, digital media at transportation hubs and in city centers now serve as the official warning channel, providing people in public spaces with up-to-date warnings and specific recommendations for action.
The aim of the warning day is to technically test the federal government's central Modular Warning System (MoWaS) and the associated internal processes for issuing a warning message at warning level 1, as well as all directly connected warning devices and warning multipliers. Depending on the danger level, the program on Ströer's digital city information systems is interrupted for the warning, or the warning is included in the regular playback loop. The warning messages on the screens provide important information quickly and initial recommendations on how those affected can best respond to a sudden event.
“Digital city media are more than just advertising – they are part of everyday safety communication and crisis prevention. With our municipal city information system, we want to further expand the reach of warnings and actively support the crisis management teams of cities,” emphasizes Alexander Stotz, CEO of Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH.
Ströer is also driving forward the further development of the warning infrastructure: In addition to visual warnings on screens, acoustic signals and individual voice announcements can be used in the future to further strengthen municipal warning systems. In addition to national agreements with the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, Ströer has also entered into further regional and local agreements with cities, municipalities, and fire and police departments, which also have a need for a warning multiplier.
